Got Green?

Greenenergy_3 Despite the fact that we live in the midst of what is quite possibly the fastest growing renewable energy market in the United States, Texans are still a bit perplexed and apprehensive of purchasing green energy. Case in point: 12,000 companies purchased renewable energy in 2006, 39 times more than in 2002. Though the number of consumers purchasing renewable power doubled to 89,000 over the same time span. 39 times more purchases in commercial service versus almost double for residential service.

So who's really trumping who in the battle to be green? Why are consumers so afraid of green energy?

Check out the article in the Dallas Morning News for some myth-busting and eye-opening stats. Needless to say, the cost of renewable energy is still a myth to many consumers.

Reading the story that your blog links to, it sounds like people think green energy will cost more. Do you know if any green companies offer fixed rates? Perhaps that would encourage people to purchase green energy.

Hey Christine:

GreenEnergyChoice.com offers both renewable energy plans and Renewable Energy Credits for those people in areas that do not have access to green plans.

As far as fixed rates go, providers do offer fixed rates on some of their green energy plans, so you can lock in your rate and not worry about price fluctuations.

Right now Texas is leading the country in wind energy production, and Texas companies are offering electricity customers some great options for renewable energy... still very cost efficient as well. Hope this helps!
